APLEIN INGENIEROS SUCCESSFULLY APPLIES THE RTV SI-COAT
570 HIGH-TENSION ISOLATOR COATING AT THE CARVALHAIS ELECTRICITY SUBSTATION
OF EDP DISTRIBUÇAO IN PORTUGAL.

the project for application of the RTV Si-COAT 570 coating for high-tension
isolators. Because of the different maintenance problems arising in coastal
and industrial areas, EDP (Electricidad de Portugal) decided to apply
silicone to high-tension isolators in the Carvalhais substation in Figueira
da Foz, which suffers very high pollution being located in a coastal area
and in an industrial estate where pollution is a constant problem.
For this project, they decided to use Si-COAT 570,
a product of the Canadian company CSL Silicones specializing in technological
solutions for high-tension apparatus. The coating will allow EDP savings
in maintenance costs and the almost complete elimination of leak current,
as well as the electric arcs occurring in the substation.
